Boulder Beer’s Chicken Dan and Turk made beer radio magic from one of the coolest beer fests in the state! The Great Central City Beer Festival. This was year three of the event and it keeps getting bigger and better. Over 25 breweries on hand in historic Central City. There’s a lot more than just beer too. Great food, a cemetary crawl, historic gun battle re enactments, and much more. Want to thank the Central City Business Admin for having us out again! 8-30-2014 Freshcraft 4th Anniversary
Jason, Aaron and Lucas Forgy kind enough to invite Turk and Nicol Winkler (AKA the Thirsty German) out for Freshcraft‘s 4th Anniversary Party! They were breaking out some crazy rare beers for this all while serving up some BBQ Iowa style. Freshcraft is a place where you can not only find a stellar lineup of brews with rare ones popping their head up all the time but a place that is well known for their amazing cuisine. They do beer dinners quarterly that will drop your jaw. Or try a beer cocktail! Lunch specials and happy hour deals galore. We LOVE Freshcraft. Jamie Gulick joined us for a few segments talking about Freshcraft, their food, women in beer, and the new concept the Forgy’s are working on in the Highlands called Block and Larder. Tebo jumped on talking Breckenridge Brewery and Fall beers and events! Arlo Grammatica from Ska breifly joined us to talk new releases and their 19th anniversary party. Wade Norris jumped on to talk about Green Beer Fest and his run for state office. Nicol, Turk and Adam Lenfest also discussed the use of the word “Denver” in a brewery’s name. Denver Beer Co and Denver Pearl Brewing are having a little battle. Thanks to our host Jamie, the Forgy’s and everyone at Freshcraft for the great time!

Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande joined Turk to co host the show in studio today. She’s putting on a big show called Offensively Delicious during GABF week that mixes comedy and beer. They will have national and local comedians plus some rookie brewery workers taking their shot at stand up. In hour one we talked with Jason Bell the brewmaster at Living the Dream Brewing which just opened in Highlands Ranch at Santa Fe and Highlands Ranch Parkway. Him and his partners are living the dream while making great beers! We also chatted with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. He’s been on a wild Mountain Tour! In Hour two the Kokopelli Beer Company gang jumped in! We had founder and owner Christine Wares and Katie Schroepfer in studio. Also want to thank Danica Smith for bringing Kokopelli Beer all the way down from Westminster! They have a really cool story and make some really great and diverse beers! Felt good to be back at our home away form home Arvada Beer Company as Cary and Kelly Floyd sat in the whole show with Turk! In hour one we talked about GABF events and happenings, new beers at Arvada Beer, their 3rd anniversary party coming up October 25th which we will broadcast from and a lot more. Tebo also jumped in and almost seemed to be in a jolly spirit even though GABF is about to fall on top of him! In hour two Marty Jones came on to talk about his new venture the Brew Night Show which should take place once every two months at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret. It’s a variety show with music, comedy and beer banter. He will also feature some very cool guests including Charlie Papazian who will be at the premier during GABF on Wednesday. Information is HERE! Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: 14th Annual Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Saturday January 11th, 2014
Third year in a row we had the honor of broadcasting from Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines at the beautiful Vail Cascade! This was the 14th annual and it was BIG! 137 breweries in a new venue! All the great symposiums, dinners, educational seminars and of course the Grand tasting! Laura and Bill Lodge know what they are doing and it shows! Want to thank Laura and Bill, The Vail Cascade, Holiday Inn Apex West Vail, Elite Brands of Colorado.the cabbie who found my phone, and, of course, all the amazing people who make up the craft beer scene!
We talked to several guests including Todd Thibault and Yeager Sharpe from Breckenridge Brewery, Michelle Maloney from the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, PJ Hoberman from Denver off the Wagon and Imbibe, David Thibodeau and Arlo Grammatica from Ska, Sean Nook from Black Bottle Brewery, Bess Dougherty and Shannon Berner from The Wynkoop, and Gary V.

We were very honored to be the only broadcast crew inside the halls of Great American Beer Festival! As the medal ceremony was wrapping up we had several guests on!
In Hour One we led off with a little scene set from the 31st annual GABF! We were then joined by General Manager at the Publican in Chicago Katie Syracopoulos. We also talked with Adam Trattler from Backcountry Brewery in Frisco. We then were joined by a very overworked Todd Thibault from Breckenridge Brewery. He gave us the lowdown on what it’s like to be involved in dozens of events and having to get beer practically everywhere during GABF week. We closed out the hour with John Winter from Lone Tree Brewing Company!
In Hour Two folks started pouring out of the awards ceremony. We announced some of those winners and Andrew Emerton from New Belgium Brewing jumped on. They won two medals! Brewers Association Craft Beer Program Director Julia Herz also joined us to talk about some of the medal winners and about 31 years of GABF! Strange Brewing Company co owner Tim Myers also joined us right after learning they had won a Bronze for their Dr. Strangelove Barleywine! Next up was Andy Brown and Marty Jones from the Wynkoop to talk about their Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout. Our next guests were Brad Lincoln and Gordon Schuck from Funkwerks who grabbed gold medals with their Belgian Style Strong and their Saison. But that was just the beginning, as they also received the Small Brewery of the Year Award! Upslope also won a silver medal in the American Style Brown category and head brewer Alex Violette joined us. We closed out the show with Ska President Dave Thibodeau who was a skunked as far as medals and was a little sour! We love him dearly though!
Lots of guests and beer banter here. Jason and Lucas Forgy filled us in on two years of serving fine craft beer and wonderful food from 1530 Blake St. in Downtown Denver.

Also joining in on the fun was Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault live from Pagosa Springs, and Sam Scruby and Luke Franklin from Upslope Brewing who provided a peach firkin at Freshcraft and have some killer new beers out including their GABF gold medal winning Pumpkin Ale.

The Brewers Association reported official craft beer statistics for 2011 this week. Volume share for craft beer grew from 4.97% to 5.68%. The 11.5 million barrels produced is an increase of 13.2% from 2010. Dollar share grew from 7.6% to 9.1%. The $8.7 billion of craft beer sold is a 15% increase from 2010. The official number of breweries for 2011 is 1,989, an 11% increase over 2010. 250 breweries opened and 37 breweries closed in 2011. Compared to 152 and 63, respectively in 2010. And finally – The craft beer industry employed “approximately” 103,585 people in 2011.

If you are one of the dozen or so remaining homebrewers who have not yet started their own brewery, Ska Brewing is looking for YOU to participate in their 2012 GABF Pro-Am Homebrew Competition. Registration is open now. All beer entries must be received by Ska Brewing between April 23 and May 9. The competition is also a preliminary for the 2012 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Pro-Am category, and will be an AHA/BJCP-certified competition. The winning brewer will be invited to Ska Brewing in Durango, Coloradoto help brew a commercial batch of their beer for release this fall as part of Ska’s limited-release “Local Series.” The winner will also be entered in the Pro-Am category of the 2012 GABF. Hops and Pie will have a dozen barrel or oak-aged beers on tap for tomorrow’s Littlest Big Beer fest. Some of the beers include Dogfish Burton Baton, Upslope Barrel-Aged Foreign Stout, Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout, Firestone 15, Boulevard Rye on Rye, Left Hand Widdershins and Boulder Beer’s barrel-aged orange and cocoa porter, among others. There will also be a Dry Dock beer on the hand pump. Flights and single pours are available. Begins at 2 o clock.
Odell Brewing welcomes the return of its seasonal Double Pilsner today with a party in the brewery’sFort Collinstap room. In addition to beer, there will be a food, back yard games, and live music by the Gin Mill Gypsies from 4 to 6 p.m. It will be sold in liquor stores in four-packs.

From The Denver Post: The operators of Shine Restaurant & Gathering Place, at 2027 13th St. in downtown Boulder, have finalized their federal paperwork to operate Shine Brewing Co. Triplets Jill, Jen and Jessica Emich opened Shine three months ago, and also purchased the brewing equipment in the back of the restaurant — which previously was home to Los Oasis, the Boulder Draft House and RedFish. The Emichs are working with former Los Oasis and RedFish brewmaster Mike Kasian, combining his experience with their interest in experimenting should result in some unique brews, she said. Shine Brewing marks its grand opening this weekend and will have six beers: Trilogy IPA, Pohoda Pilsner, Down Dog Imperial Red, Shine Pale Ale, Sanitas Imperial Stout and a yet-to-be-named gluten-free beer. New release form the Artisan Ale Project at Twisted Pine Brewing in Boulder. On April 7 welcome in West Bound Braggot. The Twisted rendition began with malted barley, orange blossom honey and Citra hops, before the brewers shifted into adventure mode and added Tasmanian pepper berries and Buddha’s Hand to the kettle. Then for the finishing strokes this unique ale was fermented with a Belgian saison yeast. The label for West Bound Braggot features the painting “Running Wild” by Boulder artist Lael Har. Join the release party next Saturday from 4-8 at Twisted Pine inBoulder.

On Sunday, April 15th Upslope Brewing in Boulderis hosting their first brewery held beer dinner! Centro Latin Kitchen’s executive chef, Ian Clark, set up a killer five course meal to be paired with Upslope beers. The event will kick off at 5:30pm with an hour welcoming reception in the brewery while we serve Top Rope and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are on sale in the tap room and at Centro for $50. The Gubna was out for business in Bama. Andy Ehrnmann from Ska Brewing co hosted with Turk. Special guests today were Gardiner Hammond from Alpine Dog Brewing Company and Moose Koons from Peach Street Distillery in Palisade. We talked about Gardiner’s brewery plan which involves some help from the public via Kickstarter. Alpine Dog will be specializing in hoppy beers and Belgians! Moose filled us in on the happenings at Peach Street as they have 18 different spirits! We also talked to Thibault from Breckenridge Brewery and announced a Beer vs Wine lunch at Row 14 Bistro & Wine Bar we are involved with.Tickets will go on sale next Saturday March 24th.Master Sommalier Doug Krenick joined us to talk about the event as well.
