Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande and Turk were in studio today with some special guests in the house! In hour one Strange Craft Beer Co’s Tim Myers jumped on to talk about a new Ruby Street homebrewing set up for folks in wheelchairs. We were then joined by Ryan Scott of Odd 13 Brewing in Lafayette. He and his crew have been rocking out some phenomenal sour beers lately and we were able to give Blucifer a try. They will be releasing these in cans as seasonals. We also sampled some Eric the Red, Doctor Wildcat, Papa Selenus and Spruce Campbell. Really been impressed with what Odd 13 is cranking out these days! Also this hour we talked with Tebo about all things Breckenridge Brewery and he did his first installment of Colorado Craft Beer Bar of the Week. This week it was The Canteen Tap House & Tavern in Breckenridge.

In Hour two we welcomed in Gardiner Hammond who is the head brewer and owner at Alpine Dog Brewing Company on Colfax and Ogden. He opened up in November and has some real fun and great beers to offer. We sampled his Imperial Red and Stout. We also caught up with Catherine Peters from the Bark Bar in Denver who had to recently shut down due to zoning issues.  After a handful of neighbors complained of noise, parking and drunken behavior, the city determined Denver zoning code doesn’t allow restaurants or bars to have off leash dog yards. She plans on re opening somewhere in Wheatridge. This show was packed and is a really good listen for you!

Nicol Winkler (AKA The Thirsty German) and Turk broadcasted live from Odd 13 Brewing Company at 301 E. Simpson St. in Old Town Lafayette! Ryan Scott was our host the whole show as we went through his and Kristen’s beers. We also need to thank assistant brewer Brandon Bolt who couldn’t make it for the show! They have a really cool story, clean new brewhouse, amazing beer garden and of course some very cool beers. They have a barrel aging project and are doing some bretted beers!  You got to love their themed beers to that coincide with some real life super heroes the Scott’s know! Welcome in The Odd Squad, The Legion of Odd and the Sidekicks. In Hour one we also chatted with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. Sounded like he had his fill of CBC!

By the way, we did give a nice wrap to the Craft Brewers Conference and announced all the CO World Beer Cup winners. Find that list HERE! We also chatted with Chris Gillard from one of the top beer shops in the world! He owns Miorge Mihoublon in Arlon, Belgium. We chatted about his shop, what he was doing in Colorado and about how Belgian brewers are now mimicking what American brewers do and how it used to be the other way around! A fascinating man here with an awesome story! We also caught up with Brandon Proff from Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew. Again, BIG thanks to Ryan and Kristin Scott for hosting us!

In Hour Two we led off talking with Elysian Brewing’s Dick Cantwell to talk about a book he penned with a lot of help: The Brewers Association’s Guide to Starting Your Own Brewery. This comprehensive guide will help you plan and open a thriving, quality-oriented brewery. It reviews everything that matters, from site selection and branding to regulatory requirements, flooring choices and equipment considerations. Cantwell  covers ingredients, financing, business plans, quality assurance, distribution, wastewater, sustainability practices and more, for prospective brewpub and packaging brewery owners alike. Cantwell walks the reader through the planning and execution required to turn craft brewing dreams into reality. This book is an indispensable resource. We then talked with Ali Benetka who was recently named Renegade Brewing Company‘s head brewer. At 24 years old she is the youngest head brewer in the sate. We talked about what she brings to the table and Renegade’s 2 year anniversary bash being held on Saturday June 29th.
