Saturday November 15th 2014 High Plains Tap House 1 Year Anniversary
We have a great new sponsor in High Plains Tap House and we were super stoked when they asked us to come out and hang for their 1 year anniversary party. The kindest receptions we’ve ever had as you will see below! Stacy Turk sat in today and co hosted. Guests included Nate and Laura Fleming who own and operate High Plains, Joel Scally from Odyssey Beerwerks , Mike Cugini and Ben Christianson from Rockyard American Grill and Brewery and Zack Christofferson and Brian Blainey from Chain Reaction Brewing. We HIGHLY suggest you come out and see these folks when you get a chance in Littleton at Wadsworth and Chatfield. A nice wide variety of craft beers from around the world, a delightful food menu, an 80 inch TV and some of the nicest folks you will meet! Get down and say hello!
Saturday November 22nd 2014 with the Blue Spruce Brewing and Brewery Rickoli Gangs
Turk hosted alone in studio today as he has been quite forgetful lately and went to work without securing a co host. But no worries as we had some great guests come in to hang out. In Hour One we had in Rick and Tim Kane from Blue Spruce Brewing Company in Centennial at Colorado Blvd and County Line Rd. Rick and Tim are a father son team who along with mom Theresa run a very cool brewery and Mazatlan Style kitchen to boot. We talked about a collaboration beer they did with seven other C-470 area breweries that will be tapped at all the locations on December 5th. It’s called Bock C-470. We also sampled some fine fall brews they are rocking right now. In Hour Two we sat down with Rick and Jaqua Abitbol as well as Todd Williamson from Brewery Rickoli in Wheatridge at 43rd and Wadsworth. We talked about his hook up with Sam Adam’s Brewing the American Dream program, making gluten-free beers and about his beers which have some pretty darn cool names. Had a really great time in studio with these guys and gal so very thankful they came in. Support your local Centennial and Wheatridge brewery folks!
Saturday November 29th 2014 Chain Reaction Brewing for the Despondents vs Stacy Turk Beer
Yep, it finally came down to this one! Stacy and John Turk have been homebrewing for a handful of years so when Zack Christofferson from Chain Reaction Brewing approached them both to do separate beers professionally at Chain Reaction, we had to make a big deal out of it. So we though it might be cool to have Stacy take on the Beer Despondents Todd Thibault, Mike Nelson and Turk. Stacy and the Chain Reax crew made a Caramel Apple Brown while the Despondents went with a Chocolate Cream Porter. We had a contest to see what beer was better as we tapped it today. The winner was decided by a judging panel made up of Brewtally Insane‘s Mark Robinson, The Thirsty German Nicol Winkler, author and beer journalist Emily Hutto and Nate Fleming from High Plains Tap House. One dollar for each sale went to their respective charities. Stacy went with The Gathering Place and the Despondents went with Life Is Better Rescue. The losing beer makers have to match the totals for sale of that beer. So it came down to it with Nate and Nicol voting for the Stacy and Mark and Emily voting for the Despondents. The folks on hand had to split the votes and did so favoring Stacy’s Caramel Apple Brown. During the show we had on Tim Myers from Strange Craft Beer Company, Thibault, Nelson, Stacy, Zack and Chad Christofferson, Klaus Schiefelbbin and the entire judging panel. What a very fun event and we WILL do this again. BIG up thanks to the Christofferson family and the Chain Reax crew for hosting us. This was a very good time.
We were in studio for the show today for the first time in a long time! In hour one we had the Jellyman Kjell Wygant and The Fez Greg Fetzer from Rockyard American Grill and Brewery. We talked about their new Mix 12 pack which is now out in the market as well as sampled their Dog House Red which is a barrel-aged and bretted Red Ale. Very tasty and get some while you can. We also talked about their upcoming festival on August 23rd Rendezvous at the Rock. Lots of breweries and a traveling trophy will be awarded. We also caught up with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery who is smack dab in the middle of a Mountain Tour. In hour two Laura and Nate Fleming from High Plains Tap House jumped in with us to talk about what they are doing there on the Northeast corner of Wadsworth and Chatfield in Littleton. You need to get in and visit this beer lovers paradise in the south metro! We also did Mobile canning’s Brew News You Can Use and discussed how to tell a brewer or brewery that their beers actually need work. Is it detrimental to the craft movement if we always say that beer is “good”?
Second year in a row we were asked and stoked to be part of the South Denver Beer Fest! About 2 to 3 thousand people were on hand for this two day fest! The folks at Beer Craving really know what they are doing and throw an amazing beer, music and food fest! Make sure you mark your calendar for next year and the first weekend of May!
Our special guest co host was Andrew Ehrnman from Star Bar at 22nd and Larimer! He has been around the beer block a few time, so to speak. We had several guests on the show including our weekly chat with Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault. We also talked to Breck’s Matt Eldridge, Falling Rock Tavern‘s Beth Walter, Rockyard‘s Jim Stinson, Great Divide‘s Kate Kingsbery Laura and Nate Fleming from High Plains Tap House, Verboten Brewing‘s Joe Akers, Logan and Lisa from Duke’s Small Batch Smoked Meats and Curtis from 5280 Event Centers. Wish we could have broadcasted for several more hours! Big thanks to Mike, Dan and the whole production crew and the amazing volunteers! See you here next year!
