Nicol Winkler (AKA The Thirsty German) and Daniel Ekker from Argonaut Wine & Liquor filled in while Turk was pouring beers in Asheville NC. In Hour one they talked to special guests from Joyride Brewing Company: owner Dave Bergen and brewer Nathan Lincoln. They are rocking out amazing beers with a real cool taproom at 25th and Sheridan in Edgewater. Great to finally get these guys in. We also chatted with Todd Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. In hour two owner David Lin and head brewer Marks Lanham from Comrade Brewing Company joined the fray. They have been turning heads with their Superpower IPA. Marks is former head brewer at Grand Teton, Boneyard and Barley Browns and really knows how to work with hops. David comes from Dry Dock Brewing Company. We also had on the line Terry Martin who is a local homebrewer who is helping a local non-profit organize a home brew tasting event in Denver on April 24. Salus World helps with mental health issues in war torn regions, like Malaysia. She’s looking for local homebrewers to donate 2.5 gallons (or so) of up to 2 styles of their beer. Basically, they’ll be pouring their beer for a good cause, helping to raise awareness of the non-profit. The event is in RiNo, at the Posner Center, on April 24. Contact her at this email: email@example.com. Two winners will be selected, a judges choice and a people’s choice. Winners will have the opportunity to win a gift certificate to a local homebrew shop. We also gave you a healthy dose of Brew News You Can Use.
The boys were back in studio this week with some very cool guests as well as brew news you can use!
In Hour One we had Shad Chancey and Taylor Wise in from Grossenbart Brewery.
They are in the set up stages for a nanobrewery somewhere in the Boulder or Broomfield area. Grossenbart means big beard or big head in German. Each of their beers named after a beard style. We talked to them about their idea, sampled some of their beers and of course talked beards! You might be surprised on what facial hair name you are sporting! We also of course talked to our Beer Despondent Todd Thibault from Breckenridge Brewery. They have a ton of events this season and some new beers. Plus he once again guaranteed us Breck is staying in Colorado.
In Hour Two we brought in Carol White and Mike Laur from the Beer Drinker’s Guide to Colorado. They have their 6th edition maps out which will would make one very fine holiday gift for that beer lover in your family or circle of friends. A map so useful, you’ll wonder how you survived so long without one. It will delight and enthrall you as it helps you find your own little piece of Beer Heaven. From megabrewers to bucketbrewers, our beautiful, full-color map pint-points the hoppiest, happiest, and hippest hangouts on the Colorado Beer Scene. With 168 brewing operations to visit and explore, you’ll never wander again without the wisdom of where to find your next beer. It’s completely revised, updated and brand new for 2012. Our 6th Edition is the best yet, full of detailed information on Colorado breweries, brewpubs, homebrew suppliers, historic watering holes, beer bars, beer styles, colors and tastes.
Carol and Mike are beer detectives and you know their hands are full trying to keep track of all the new and upcoming breweries. BDG2C also releases news stories on opening breweries so make sure you check them out but most importantly grab that craft beer you know a map for the holidays. You can find them in liquor stores, breweries, The Tattered Cover and of course online at the link above.
We then brought in Brian and Khara O’Connel from Renegade Brewing Company. They releases a lot of news this week as they will be canning two more beers: their 5:00 Afternoon Ale and the Elevation Triple IPA. They also plan to open the Renegade Publik House next March in the DU area at Evans and Broadway. They will hold 5-8 taps of their own and 12-15 guest taps. They will also offer gourmet pizzas and salads that accompany the beers they have on tap! Very cool news for Renegade after just 18 month of being open!
