Saturday January 17th 2014 with Odd 13 and Alpine Dog Brewing
Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande and Turk were in studio today with some special guests in the house! In hour one Strange Craft Beer Co’s Tim Myers jumped on to talk about a new Ruby Street homebrewing set up for folks in wheelchairs. We were then joined by Ryan Scott of Odd 13 Brewing in Lafayette. He and his crew have been rocking out some phenomenal sour beers lately and we were able to give Blucifer a try. They will be releasing these in cans as seasonals. We also sampled some Eric the Red, Doctor Wildcat, Papa Selenus and Spruce Campbell. Really been impressed with what Odd 13 is cranking out these days! Also this hour we talked with Tebo about all things Breckenridge Brewery and he did his first installment of Colorado Craft Beer Bar of the Week. This week it was The Canteen Tap House & Tavern in Breckenridge.
In Hour two we welcomed in Gardiner Hammond who is the head brewer and owner at Alpine Dog Brewing Company on Colfax and Ogden. He opened up in November and has some real fun and great beers to offer. We sampled his Imperial Red and Stout. We also caught up with Catherine Peters from the Bark Bar in Denver who had to recently shut down due to zoning issues. After a handful of neighbors complained of noise, parking and drunken behavior, the city determined Denver zoning code doesn’t allow restaurants or bars to have off leash dog yards. She plans on re opening somewhere in Wheatridge. This show was packed and is a really good listen for you!
Special guests in studio with us this week: Nick Callaway from Loveland Ale Works, David Boone from Prost Brewing Company, Andy Brown from Wynkoop and James Pachorek from The Cheeky Monk, Royal Hilltop and Lost Highway Brewing.
Nick talked about his brewery in downtown Loveland, why he loves brewing stouts so much, his American Sour Ale with Raspberries and about their one year anniversary coming up next month. Boone talked about Prost’s brewing system, their beers and proper pouring of German brews. Andy and James talked about a collaboration brew the Cheeky Monk and Wynkoop did together. It’s a Black Saison called Saison de Colfax and now on tap only at Wynkoop, Cheeky Monk and Royal Hilltop. Andy also talked about some upcoming brews and James updated us on Lost Highway.
Back to our home away from home at Arvada Beer Company!
In Hour 1 we chatted with Cary Floyd about their new Belgian Strong and about the 9 beers they will be submitting for medals at GABF. We also talked to Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery who joined us live from Kyle’s Brew Fest at Boulder Beer.
In hour 2 Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged joined us as he brought in some nice brews for us to sample as well including the Crabtree Menage a Trios Braggot. He talked about new breweries coming and in planning for Colorado. Cary Floyd also sat in with Dave and the boys. Also this hour we broke some news about the Fall Beer Classic. This is on Saturday September 29th downtown. Breweries will bring in their fall seasonal, harvest, or fresh hopped brews where a “best” fall beer will be announced and awarded. Live music and a skins game for charity as well. Nicol Winkler and Adam Lenfest who have been the organizers of this event joined us on tha air for details. We also talked to Greg Brill and Keniey Sonley from Parry’s Pizzeria who were holding a Dogfish Head Special Pouring and are planning a benefit for Alex Sullivan’s family on Thursday August 9th.
