Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 3-23-2013

In Hour One we opened up with Mobile Canning’s Brew News You Can Use and then were joined by Sarah and James Howat form Former Future Brewing Company! They are planning on opening shop soon in the Baker neighborhood. They make futuristic interpretations of historical style brews and are doing a great job! Keep an eye on these guys in the near future! They will be at some beer festivals this spring and summer for you to check out! We also chatted with Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault about Colorado Craft Beer Week, a collaboration they did, the new brewery digs getting Littleton City approval and much more!

In Hour Two we chatted with Chef Ian Clark from BRU Handbuilt Ales. He will soon be opening BRU Handbuilt Ales and Eats at 53rd and Arapahoe in Boulder. He is still brewing and bottling out of his garage. He makes some fascinating brews. We also rapped with The Gubna who was in Tuscaloosa Alabama for the Suds of the South Beer Festival.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: Hops & Pie Littlest Big Barrel-Aged Beer Fest 3-16-2013

We broadcasted from Hops & Pie for their Littlest Big Beer Fest Barrel- Aged Edition! Maker’s Mark Barrel Aged Odell’s, Great Divide, Oskar Blues, Renegade and River North brews! All 5 of them exceptionally good! We thank everyone who came out and celebrated with us on St. Paddy’s Day!

Their big one-year anniversary is also coming up on May 4th. Steve Kurowski from the Colorado Brewer’s Guild then jumped on to talk about Colorado Craft Beer Week. We also chatted with Breckenridge’s Todd Thibault about their upcoming week events. We closed out the show talking with Andrea Miller and head brewer at Big Choice Zack Coleman!

In Hour Two we led off with Brian O’Connell and Laura Vande Zande from our newest sponsors Renegade Brewing Company! They had an unbelievable Maker’s Mark Barrel-Aged Pumpkin Porter called Cherub Rock on tap! We talked about their CCBW events and about the events that led up to them changing the name of Ryeteous Rye Pale Ale to Redacted. We are so stoked to have these guys on board with us! We then talked to Hops & Pie’s Drew Watson. Pretty soon he will be brewing his own beer there at 39th and Tennyson! We then chatted Odell Brewing with Brian Bjork. They made an unbelievable blend to age in their Makers Mark barrel. They blended their Mountain Standard Black IPA with Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout. It was phenomenal! We closed out the hour with beer journalists Ed Sealover and Eric Gorski. Eric heads up the fabulous First Drafts Beer Blog at the Denver Post. Ed Sealover writes for the Denver Business Journal, is the author of Mountain Brew and the Beer Run Blog. He is also the host of a new Beer Show on TV called Colorado Brews which will it’s pilot episode on  Rocky Mountain PBS on April 6th at 9:30 PM.

Monday March 18: An Evening With Dr. Colorado 6PM to 8PMColorado Craft, 2220 Blake St.  Reception beginning at 5:30 PM with a complimentary Breckenridge Brewery beer.  Dr. Tom will begin his presentation at 6PM for about an hour.  Questions and answers will follow. Thomas J. “Dr. Colorado” Noel, a Professor of History and Director of Public History, Preservation & Colorado Studies at University of Colorado Denver (UCD), is the author of numerous books, articles and columns. Tom is a graduate of UCD and the University of Colorado at Boulder, where his mother (a psychiatrist) and grandmother (a teacher) also completed graduate work. Tom teaches Denver, Colorado, Heritage Tourism, Historic Preservation, Mining & Railroads, National Parks History, U.S. West, and Western Art & Architecture courses at UCD, as well as conducting tours of the highest state and the Mile High City for the Smithsonian Institution and the Colorado History Museum. Tom writes a regular column for the Sunday Denver Post Perspective section and also appears on Denver KUSA Channel 9’s “Colorado & Company” as Dr. Colorado. Tom co-directs The Center for Colorado & The West at the Auraria Library.

Wednesday March 20: Collaboration Beer Dinner at FreshCraft 1530 Blake St. 6PM to 10PM. In celebration of CO Craft Beer Week FRESCHCRAFT will be holding a very special five course Food & Beer pairing dinner on Wednesday 3/20/13. In each course chefs Lucas & Jon will will be not only pairing with limited release beers from Upslope Brewing Co, Ska Brewing Co, Oskar Blues Brewery, Odell Brewing Co & Breckenridge Brewery – they will also be cooking with a beer from each of them. Representatives from each brewery will be on hand to answer questions. There will only be 50 tickets total sold to this dinner with five separate seating times beginning at 6:00 pm. Tax, gratuity and a $5 donation to the Colorado Brewer’s Guild are included in the $65 ticket price.  They will stop selling tickets on Monday 3/18/13 in order for their kitchen to purchase and prepare the appropriate amount of food. Thursday March 21: That’s Firkin Awesome 6:00 PM. Colorado Craft, 2220 Blake St. Come sample cask style beers from 16 Colorado craft brewers. All of these breweries are cooking up something special just for this event. We will tap the Firkins at 6:00 sharp, don’t be late. Also, be sure to study up on your craft beer knowledge as craft beer themed trivia night. Arvada Beer will be pouring their Irish Red and Nitro Stout at HMLS in Longmont all week long. On Monday March 18th Cary and Dennis will be there from 5 to 7 pm giving away pint glasses to everyone who orders an Arvada beer (while supplies last).

Ernie’s Bar and Pizza on 44th and Federal will be putting 30 Colorado craft beers on Tap Monday March 18tth including O’Harrows Stout from Arvada Beer. All of the 30 breweries have never been on tap at Earnies before.

Hair of the Dog in Boulder is putting 3 of our beers on tap Monday March 18th. Get in and try the Goldline IPA, Water Tower Wheat and Ralston’s Golden Ale.

 


Wednesday March 20: Freshcraft is honored to be working with some of Colorado’s best and brightest craft breweries, including Upslope, Ska, Oskar Blues, Odell and Breckenridge, to bring you a food and beer pairing dinner of epic proportions. We will be presenting five unique courses, each paired with beers from the aforementioned breweries.$65/ person (tax and gratuity included) Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Colorado’s Brewers Guild, supporting craft brewing in Colorado. Telluride Tripel Tapping:  Tommy from Telluride brewing will be in attendance, 7 pm on Thursday 3/21.  We will be tapping their Tripel which was previously a tap room only beer.  We’ll also have a nitro version of their Tempter IPA on draft and will have cans of Face Down Brown & Bridal Veil Rye Pale Ale

And on Friday March 22nd they’ll be doing a mini-tap takeover with Dry Dock. it’s going to be an all day affair.  They’ll be tapping nine or more beers from Dry Dock including both “Home Fleet” favorites and some really tasty specialty brews.  Confirmed beers to date are:  Wee Heavy, Tripel, Hefeweizen, Apricot Blonde, Hop Abomination IPA,  HMS Victory Amber & Gold Saison.  There will be two or three more specialties as well.

We will have special beer tappings all week long as well as beer trivia on the hour every hour all week with prizes of pint glasses, six packs, growlers, and free beer.

We will also have a raffle for a 1/4 bbl keg. The raffle takes place on Sunday March 24th (winner does not have to be present to win). Tickets cost $3 or two for $5. All of the proceeds will go to support the Colorado Brewers Guild.

Lastly we will have a Chili Cook Off on Saturday the 23rd. We will have three categories (con carne, veggie, and green chili). The best chili will win a private party and beer tab. The cost is $5 for entrants who will receive a buck off all pints and as much chili as they can eat. If you simply just want to enjoy some chili the cost will be $10. Again, all
proceeds will go to the Colorado Brewers Guild.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast Avery Strong Ale Festival 3-2-13

The Gubna and Turk were live form the Avery Brewing Company Tap Room for the 11th Annual Strong Ale Festival. This festival benefits Blue Sky Bridge Child & Family Advocacy Center. They facilitate a collaborative approach to child abuse investigations while providing child victims and their families with support in a safe and child-focused environment. They strive to make the community safer for all children and families through intervention, education and advocacy.

Very honored to broadcast from this awesome fest where every beer is over 8% ABV. Some very great beers and movers and shakers in the craft beer were present! Big thanks to Joe Osborne, Adam Avery and the whole crew in Boulder for having us out!

In Hour One: We threw out Brew News You Can Use, told you what is going on with all of our awesome sponsors and had a ton of guests! We led off with Joe Osborne who is Avery’s Marketing Director. We talked about the Strong Ale Festival, the new brewery, session brews and much more. We then caught up with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. Breck just brewed a new beer this week with the folks from Comic Con and will be releases when the show is in Denver in May. We closed out hour one talking with JD Merryweather from Oklahoma City’s COOP Ale Works. He and his crew had some fine beers on tap and we talked about the beer scene in OK and about his brewery.

In Hour Two: We continued talking with OKC’s JD Merryweather about COOP Ale Works. We also brought in Director of Operations at Dry Dock Brewing Company Doug Hyndman. He was former head brewer and just received the promotion to Director of Ops! We talked about the new production facility south of I70 on Tower Road, the beers they are canning and much more. We then doubled up with Tim Myers from Strange Brewing Company and Jason Wiedmaier from Lone Tree Brewing Company! We talked about the brotherhood of brewing in Colorado, Colorado Craft Beer Week, new beers at their respective digs and more. We closed out the show with a brief conversation with Ed Sealover of the Denver Business Journal and author f Mountain Brew. He and Charles Nuckolls have launched a beer show on TV called Colorado Brews which will have a pilot episode airing on Saturday April 6th at 9:30 PM on Rocky Mountain PBS. Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 2-9-2013 Cannonball Creek and Boulder Beer

What an awesome show here for ya folks!

In Hour One we talked to Brian Hutchinson, the head brewer at Cannonball Creek Brewing Company at 393 N. Washington Ave in Golden. They just opened three weeks ago and have had an awesome following and accolades since. We talked to Brian about his and Jason Stengl’s digs, their beers and their future. We also talked to Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault about Colorado Craft Beer Week coming up next month.

We talked about their history as the first Colorado microbrewery and 43rd US brewing license holder. They talked about their historic big months in beer releases, a collaboration with Knee Deep Brewing and much more. What an awesome hour with these two guys!
