Colorado Craft Brew Show Brewcast Strange Brewing Co. 3rd Anniversary Party 5-18-2013

We broadcasted live from Strange Brewing Company for the culmination of their 3rd Anniversary party and to wrap up American Craft Beer Week. Co owner and head brewer Tim Myers was the guest co host with Turk. We talked about their amazing three years of growth, the wide range of brews they make and the Dr. Strangelove Barleywine which won a bronze medal at last year’s GABF and was just bottled and now on sale in the taproom!

We also talked to Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery who was in Arizona for the AmeriCAN Canned Craft Beer Fest. Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande jumped on to discuss the all new Renegade Publik House. Beer Despondent Mike Nelson gave us the update on his beer travels and we were joined by Harry Smith and Lila Mackey who are opening up Black Sky Brewery at 490 Santa Fe in the Arts District. Harry has brewed at Breckenridge the last 12 years and Lila has been with Strange since the beginning.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast May 11th 2013

Pat Hartman from Mobile Canning our special guest host this week! Our guests were Tom Horst from Crystal Springs Brewing Company and Zack Christofferson from Chain Reaction Brewing Company. Tom has been brewing since 1988 in Boulder and opened up Crystal Springs 3 years ago and is celebrating his anniversary this week. He announced a new facility and some new label approvals during the show while we sampled some of his fine brews. Mobile Canning is also packaging their Amber and Kolsh. Zack and his cousin Chad are in the process of opening their brewery in the Littleton area. He also covers beer for the Examiner. Zack and Chad are perfecting their brews and we got a taste of his Smoked Porter, English Mild, Belma Pale Ale and Pink Peppercorn Saison. You need to hear why these guys chose the name Chain Reaction! Good stuff! We also threw out American Craft Beer Week events for our sponsors and did Brew News You Can Use. Tebo also jumped in to talk about Breckenridge Brewery’s ACBW events.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast South Denver Beer Fest 5-4-2013

Chicken Dan from Boulder Beer was our special guest host as we broadcasted live from day one of the South Denver Beer Festival at Clement Park in Littleton CO.

Big thanks to Mike Burns and Jeremy Hutaff from Beer Craving who put on this fest and were kind enough to have us out.This festival featured over 60 breweries, distilleries, mead makers, gluten free providers, music, food, vendors and a ton of fun. This was a phenomenal event and can’t wait for it again next year!

In Hour One, we led off with this week’s Brew News You Can Use and then jumped on with Xandy Bustamante from Elevation Beer Company. He talked about their new beers, new packaging, their anniversary party on May 18th and much more. We then talked Boulder Beer with Chicken Dan.

In Hour Two we led off with festival details from Marty Noah from Beer Craving and The South Denver Beer Fest. We then jumped on with Todd Thibault and Todd Usry from Breckenridge Brewery. We talked about the new brewery and some new beer Breck has been tinkering with. Next up was Justin Tilotta from Twisted Pine Brewing Company. We sampled their new Cucumber Cream Ale and talked about Twisted Pine. We closed talking a little bit about canned craft beers.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: 4-27-2013 Parry’s Pizza Big Ass Avery Tap Takeover

Want to give a big shout out to David Parry, Keniey Sonley, and the entire Parry’s crew for making us a part of this event. 6 months of planning and marketing for this unbelievable tap takeover and we can’t wait for the next one!

Elizabeth Kagan from Firestone Walker was Turk’s co host for the show this week as we broadcasted live from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch for their 3 location Big Ass Tap Takeover. Avery Brewing provided 31 beers at each location. We spent the whole first hour talking  with David Parry and Adam Avery. This was our first chance to have Adam on our show!

In Hour Two we opened up with our Beer Despondent Michael Nelson who joined us from the Greenwood Village Parry’s. Next, Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault jumped on with us live from Highlands Ranch and then we did Mobile Canning‘s Brew News You Can Use. Around the bottom of the hour we were joined by beer bloggers Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged and Mark Robinson from Brewtally Insane. We talked about Avery brews, what they are covering and about some new breweries. Also this hour, Parry’s Director of Beer Flow Melanie Whitcomb jumped on to give us a scene set from the Parry’s in Castle Rock.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 4-20-2013

In Hour One we led off with Mobile Canning‘s Brew News You Can Use! We then were joined by Falling Rock employees Paul Vismara and Bryan Jansing who are working on a book project that will be a history and guide to the Italian craft beer scene. They took a trip there in late January and brought some beers back which we shared and discussed the vibrant and evolving movement. They will be going back to Italy again here in a few months to do some more research. They aso need your help and have launched a Kickstarter program to raise some funds to write the book. Check their blog and get involved in their Kickstarted program HERE. We also jumped on the line with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery who was at Southwest Arbor Fest in Grand Junction. He talked about some new beer release dates and about their Caped Brewsader beer made in conjunction with the folks from Comic Con. We also threw out several of our sponsors’ events and brew news.

In Hour Two we chatted with Jason Conger and Calvin Cook from 53 Peaks Brewing. They have been brewing together for several years and are planning on a brewery in Conifer. 53 Peaks cranked up a Kickstarter campaign in an effort to raise $20,000 to get the brewery going. Get involved HERE. They make some interesting brews including a Cherrywood Porter which we tried in studio. We also talked to Marty about a beer the Wynkoop is brewing for the Cheeky Monk. Marty also hit on some new brews they plan to start canning. We also talked to Becky Creighton from Culinary Connectors. Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 4-13-2013

In Hour One we led off Mobile Canning‘s with Brew News You Can Use! We then were joined by Craig Rothgery of De Steeg Brewing and John Frazee of Gravity Brewing. They talked about their respective breweries and about a collaboration they did together! De Steeg was going to name their brewery High Gravity but after a friendly phone call they just decided an new name was in order and they collaborated on a very good 10% + ABV Belgian IPA! We also jumped on with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery to talk more about the Comic Con Beer and some of their upcoming events!

In Hour Two we led off with Bryan Selders who is the former head brewer at Dogfish Head and was recently named head brewer at The Post Brewing Company which will open in Lafayette this November. Bryan was also the co host with Sam Calagione of Brew Masters which made a short run on Discovery Channel. He talked about the jump from DFH to graphics design and then back into brewing as well as some brews he likes to experiment with. Colorado is very lucky to have this guy moving here to brew his stuff! We then talked with Melanie Whitcomb and Keniey Sonley from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar. They recently opened their 4th location at Holly and Orchard in the DTC! They now boast 144 taps! We also talked about April 27th’s Big Ass Tap Takeover which will run at 3 locations (CR,HR,DTC) with 30 Avery taps at each! All the details are in this hour. We will be broadcasting from the Highlands Ranch location from 12-2 but get there early as Adam Avery will be doing a little toast with us around 11:30 am.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 4-6-2013

In Hour One, we were very happy to welcome in Josh and Angie Grenz and Joe and Keri Akers from Verboten Brewing!! They are located at 1550 Taurus Ct in Loveland! Instead of following German Purity laws from the 16th Century, they will throw just about any ingredient into their fine brews. We talked about their story, the beer-scene in Loveland and sampled some of their beers! We also had our weekly chat with Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault. He hit on Crazy Mountain having first dibs to buy their current brewhouse at 471 Kalamath and about some events they will be involved in coming up!

In Hour Two we brought in Dan Chacon, Andrew Burton and Daniel Ekker from Argonaut Wine & Liquor. Dan is their beer buyer, Andrew runs the spirits department and Daniel is one of the managers! We talked about shelf space, transparency in what is “craft” beer, Colorado made liquor and much more. We also caught up with Strange Brewing‘s Tim Myers to talk about the on going legal battle they are having with Strange Brew Beer & Wine Making Supplies. We also talked about some new beers he and John are rolling out!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 3-30-13 Arvada Beer Company

Another broadcast from our home away from home Arvada Beer Company! The Gubna is out but joined via phone in segment one to announce that he has been temporarily assigned to Texas for Oskar Blues. So, Todd Thibault, Kelly Floyd and Cary Floyd helped out on the show today!

In Hour One, we threw out a ton of Brew News you can use and sponsor events you should get involved in. We also chatted with Mike Burns from Beer Craving who is throwing the South Denver Beer Festival at Clement Park in Littleton on May 4 and 5! There will be 60 plus breweries (national and local) on hand, over 100 beers to sample, food, n/a drinks, gluten free drinks and they are also providing some shuttles to the event! In Hour Two we rapped a lot with Tebo, Cary and Kelly! Breckenridge Brewery involved in some very cool upcoming events including a Rockies Opening Day Party at Colorado Craft and a Beer Dinner with Root Down. The Floyds talked about some of their seasonal beers they will be releasing, the National Homebrewers Competition they will be hosting, brew classes, and their Pro-Am for GABF. Need to apologize for the end of the hour as our engineer had a little water spill into the console! We made it through though!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 3-23-2013

In Hour One we opened up with Mobile Canning’s Brew News You Can Use and then were joined by Sarah and James Howat form Former Future Brewing Company! They are planning on opening shop soon in the Baker neighborhood. They make futuristic interpretations of historical style brews and are doing a great job! Keep an eye on these guys in the near future! They will be at some beer festivals this spring and summer for you to check out! We also chatted with Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault about Colorado Craft Beer Week, a collaboration they did, the new brewery digs getting Littleton City approval and much more!

In Hour Two we chatted with Chef Ian Clark from BRU Handbuilt Ales. He will soon be opening BRU Handbuilt Ales and Eats at 53rd and Arapahoe in Boulder. Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: Hops & Pie Littlest Big Barrel-Aged Beer Fest 3-16-2013

We broadcasted from Hops & Pie for their Littlest Big Beer Fest Barrel- Aged Edition! Maker’s Mark Barrel Aged Odell’s, Great Divide, Oskar Blues, Renegade and River North brews! All 5 of them exceptionally good! We thank everyone who came out and celebrated with us on St. Paddy’s Day!

In Hour One we led off with Mobile Canning‘s Brew News You Can Use then were joined by Nathaniel and Andrea Miller from Big Choice Brewing Company in Broomfield. They are making some unbelievable beers, canning their Disconnected Red, have some new beers coming down the line and a bevy of events they are involved in for Colorado Craft Beer Week. Their big one-year anniversary is also coming up on May 4th. Steve Kurowski from the Colorado Brewer’s Guild then jumped on to talk about Colorado Craft Beer Week. We also chatted with Breckenridge’s Todd Thibault about their upcoming week events. We closed out the show talking with Andrea Miller and head brewer at Big Choice Zack Coleman!

They had an unbelievable Maker’s Mark Barrel-Aged Pumpkin Porter called Cherub Rock on tap! We talked about their CCBW events and about the events that led up to them changing the name of Ryeteous Rye Pale Ale to Redacted. We are so stoked to have these guys on board with us! We then talked to Hops & Pie’s Drew Watson. Pretty soon he will be brewing his own beer there at 39th and Tennyson! We then chatted Odell Brewing with Brian Bjork. They made an unbelievable blend to age in their Makers Mark barrel. They blended their Mountain Standard Black IPA with Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout. It was phenomenal! We closed out the hour with beer journalists Ed Sealover and Eric Gorski. Eric heads up the fabulous First Drafts Beer Blog at the Denver Post. Ed Sealover writes for the Denver Business Journal, is the author of Mountain Brew and the Beer Run Blog. He is also the host of a new Beer Show on TV called Colorado Brews which will it’s pilot episode on  Rocky Mountain PBS on April 6th at 9:30 PM.
