Sometimes you have to pinch yourself and say your dreaming! Well, this was another one of those times where we found ourselves with our 4th invite to Big Beers in Vail! Yep, Laura Lodge was kind enough to have us back for 3 days of crazy fun. If you’ve never been to Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines – we suggest you put it on your bucket list. From educational seminars to insanely thought out beer dinners to a grand tasting that is TRULY grand. Big Beers has it all! Throw in the Vail Casade for lodging and the beauty of Vail Valley and you get blown away. Laura and Bill Lodge took great care again and invited us to the Epic/Sam Adams Beer Dinner. We also did Beer Yoga, skied, sat in the bar and met countless beer heroes. It gets better every year! We just wish we were able to take more and better photos.
Thibault and Stacy sat in for the show and we talked to a ton of people. In hour caught up with New Belgium Brewing‘s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert and Sensory Specialist Lauren Salazar, John Carlson of the Colorado Brewers Guild, Dogfish Head‘s Sam Galagione, and Ska Brewing‘s co-owner and founder Dave Thibodeau.
In hour two we led off with Boston Beer Company Brewmaster Jennifer Glanville. We then caught up with Renegade Brewing‘s Laura Vande Zande, Caution Brewing‘s Danny and Betty Wang and Epic Brewing‘s head brewer Jordan Schupbach.

Nicol Winler AKA The Thirsty German and Steve Kurowski of the Colorado Brewers Guild sat in the whole show as we went through the year in beer in Colorado. We talked best beers of the beer, best new breweries, trends, what to look for in 2015 and we also sampled some very fine Holiday brews. We also had a chat with Shay Wasson and Savannah Wilt form Via Baci Modern Italian Bistro in for their votes. Of course Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault weighed in as well.
Saturday December 13th Epic Brewing Company
We were stoked to be invited out to Epic Brewing Company for their holiday party with Saint Nick and a cookie and beer pairing. Firestone Walker‘s Elizabeth Isenbart co hosted with us. We were joined by Epic Tap Room Manager Jennie Richau, Beer Ambassador Eric Matelski, and owner and founder Dave Cole. Todd Thibault jumped in to talk about Bourbon barrel Aged Imperial 72 and Christmas Ale from Breckeridge Brewery. Other guests included Santa Claus and the cookie makers Kristi Peltz, Zeni Whitall, Bonnie Skells and Chelsea Magin. Kristi Pelts won with her Utah Sage Saison Lemon Bars. Get tickets for their Annual Holiday Brunch with Big Kiwi’s Gourmet Eats. Justin Hugill of Big Kiwi also jumped on to give us details. All cookies were tremendous and we can’t thank the Epic gang enough for having us come in for their Christmas party!
Saturday December 6th at Lone Tree Brewing’s 3rd Anniversary Party
Lone Tree Brewing Company was so kind to invite us out for their 3rd Anniversary Party as they released some very big news. Stacy Turk sat in for co hosting duties today! John Winter and Jason Wiedmaier joined us to talk about some really massive growth plans. We are very excited to see them gain an additional 3,600 square feet, a fully automatic Cask canning line, a new 20 barrel brewhouse and a fourth can which will be Hoptree Double IPA. The canning line is in, the brewhouse is on the way, and the Hoptree cans should be ready to roll by summer. All this allowing Lone Tree to triple their production. This is really great news. They also say they are toying with some sour beers that can be kept away from their brew system in their new space behind the taproom. Cheers for a big 2015 coming up for Lone Tree Brewing Company! Guests included owners John and Jason Winter, brewers Josh West and Jerry Siote. We also talked to Tap Room Manager Amber Davis-Sato and Sales Manager Bridgette Geiger.
We broadcasted once again from our home-away-from-home Arvada Beer Company! You got to get in and try their sessionable IPA. They also have their award winning Barleywine coming out this week! We had several guests on including Mark Slattery who you may know as Denver Beer Guy on Twitter! He covers it all from local to international beer news. Great to meet this guy who has visited so many breweries and tasted so many beers! We then chatted with Lars Ericsson and Marcus Warme from Sweden’s Nynasamns Angbryggeri. They were in town collaborating on a brew with Ska Brewing called Whipa Snapa! Can’t wait to get my tastebuds on some of this at the Collaboration Beer Fest during Colorado Beer Week. The Ska boys went to Sweden and did one there with these guys last year! Steve Kurowski also joined us as he is the man with The Colorado Brewer’s Guild and has been showing them around the state! We then talked with Todd Thibault who was actually at home compiling some recipes for pairing Breck Beers with! Next up was William Carlson II who is the creative director and founder behind Beerporium and the blog Brew-Trek. He has put together some really awesome Brewery Passport & Journals! Lastly we were joined by Adam Draeger from Yak & Yeti Restaurant & Brewpub as well as Colorado Plus Brewpub. He has some really interesting beers on tap at both spots he brews at! We talked about their new beers, brew classes and much more. Special guests were Laura and Christopher Bruns from Factotum Brewhouse. Their idea is to let home brewers brew on a pro system and have their beers on tap in this Sunnyside brewery to open this fall. We also talked to Emily Hutto about her new book Colorado’s Top Brewers. She also works for the Colorado Brewer’s Guild and writes occasionally for Denver off the Wagon as well as many other publications. We also got some new beer news and much more as we checked in with Breckenridge Brewery’s Todd Thibault.

They are making some unbelievable beers, canning their Disconnected Red, have some new beers coming down the line and a bevy of events they are involved in for Colorado Craft Beer Week. Their big one-year anniversary is also coming up on May 4th. Steve Kurowski from the Colorado Brewer’s Guild then jumped on to talk about Colorado Craft Beer Week. We also chatted with Breckenridge’s Todd Thibault about their upcoming week events. We closed out the show talking with Andrea Miller and head brewer at Big Choice Zack Coleman!
In Hour Two we led off with Brian O’Connell and Laura Vande Zande from our newest sponsors Renegade Brewing Company! They had an unbelievable Maker’s Mark Barrel-Aged Pumpkin Porter called Cherub Rock on tap! We talked about their CCBW events and about the events that led up to them changing the name of Ryeteous Rye Pale Ale to Redacted. We are so stoked to have these guys on board with us! We then talked to Hops & Pie’s Drew Watson. Pretty soon he will be brewing his own beer there at 39th and Tennyson! We then chatted Odell Brewing with Brian Bjork. They made an unbelievable blend to age in their Makers Mark barrel. They blended their Mountain Standard Black IPA with Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout. It was phenomenal! We closed out the hour with beer journalists Ed Sealover and Eric Gorski. Eric heads up the fabulous First Drafts Beer Blog at the Denver Post. Ed Sealover writes for the Denver Business Journal, is the author of Mountain Brew and the Beer Run Blog. He is also the host of a new Beer Show on TV called Colorado Brews which will it’s pilot episode on Rocky Mountain PBS on April 6th at 9:30 PM.

The Gubna and Turk were live form the Avery Brewing Company Tap Room for the 11th Annual Strong Ale Festival. This festival benefits Blue Sky Bridge Child & Family Advocacy Center. They facilitate a collaborative approach to child abuse investigations while providing child victims and their families with support in a safe and child-focused environment. They strive to make the community safer for all children and families through intervention, education and advocacy.
Very honored to broadcast from this awesome fest where every beer is over 8% ABV. Some very great beers and movers and shakers in the craft beer were present! Big thanks to Joe Osborne, Adam Avery and the whole crew in Boulder for having us out!
In Hour One: We threw out Brew News You Can Use, told you what is going on with all of our awesome sponsors and had a ton of guests! We led off with Joe Osborne who is Avery’s Marketing Director. We talked about the Strong Ale Festival, the new brewery, session brews and much more. We then caught up with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. Breck just brewed a new beer this week with the folks from Comic Con and will be releases when the show is in Denver in May. Tebo also gave us the awesome list of events they will be involved in during Colorado Craft Beer Week which runs March 18th through the 24th. We closed out hour one talking with JD Merryweather from Oklahoma City’s COOP Ale Works. He and his crew had some fine beers on tap and we talked about the beer scene in OK and about his brewery.
In Hour Two: We continued talking with OKC’s JD Merryweather about COOP Ale Works. We also brought in Director of Operations at Dry Dock Brewing Company Doug Hyndman. He was former head brewer and just received the promotion to Director of Ops! We talked about the new production facility south of I70 on Tower Road, the beers they are canning and much more. We then doubled up with Tim Myers from Strange Brewing Company and Jason Wiedmaier from Lone Tree Brewing Company! We talked about the brotherhood of brewing in Colorado, Colorado Craft Beer Week, new beers at their respective digs and more. We closed out the show with a brief conversation with Ed Sealover of the Denver Business Journal and author f Mountain Brew. He and Charles Nuckolls have launched a beer show on TV called Colorado Brews which will have a pilot episode airing on Saturday April 6th at 9:30 PM on Rocky Mountain PBS. In Hour One we had on Steve and Leslie Kaczeus from Niwot’s Bootstrap Brewing Company. They brought in some of their brand new bottled and labeled goodies! Get in and check these guys out on 79th Street in Niwot. We also had a segment of Brew News You Can Use and talked to our man Todd Thibault from Breckenridge Brewery.
In Hour Two we brought in Jim Stinson, Kjell “Jellyman” Wygant and Melissa Gifford from Rockyard American Grill & Brewing Company. They brought in a delicious saison called Spirit of Danny in memory of Danny Williams and their KROC collaboration Wilson Imperial Stout. They had expansion news and a lot of new things to talk about. Get in and check em out by the factory outlets in Castle Rock. We also chatted with Executive Director of the Colorado Brewers Guild John Carlson. Some new bills concerning beer are running through the legislature that concern the suds including another run at full strength beer in c-stores plus a bill that would let 18-20 year old’s have a brew at restaurants, breweries, etc. if the legal guardian is with you.

Another road show at Arvada Beer Company! We talked to owner and brewer Cary Floyd about his new beers on tap and about their women’s only homebrew competition. Steve Kurowski from the Colorado Brewer’s Guild also joined in to talk about the new study they did with the University of Colorado on economic impact from the craft brewing industry on our state. This segment added 446 million into the economy in 2011. Pretty amazing numbers. We also talked to Scott Kerkmans who organizes Colorado Beer Week which is coming up starting May 12th. Nicol Winkler and Lindsay McNicholas from the Crafty Ladies also jumped on with us! They discussed the Crafty Ladies, the opening Colorado Beer Week event at Highland Tap and Burger on May 12th and an event they are putting together with Firestone Walker and Left Hand on May 14th.
