Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: Parry’s Another Big Ass Avery Tap Takeover Saturday April 26th 2014

Had the honor to broadcast from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch for Another Big Ass Tap Takeover where over 26 Avery Brewing Company brews were on tap and some rare bottles were floating around too! Founder David Parry was our special co host! Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged sat in most of the show and we were also joined by Brewtally Insane’s Mark Robinson. We also had on Avery’s National Sales Director Dustin LeMoine and Darin McGregor who is their National Marketing Director. Breck Brew’s Todd Thibault also dropped us a line from the western slope! Good times were had by all and can’t wait for next years event!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: 4-27-2013 Parry’s Pizza Big Ass Avery Tap Takeover

Want to give a big shout out to David Parry, Keniey Sonley, and the entire Parry’s crew for making us a part of this event. 6 months of planning and marketing for this unbelievable tap takeover and we can’t wait for the next one!

Elizabeth Kagan from Firestone Walker was Turk’s co host for the show this week as we broadcasted live from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch for their 3 location Big Ass Tap Takeover. Avery Brewing provided 31 beers at each location. We spent the whole first hour talking  with David Parry and Adam Avery. This was our first chance to have Adam on our show!

In Hour Two we opened up with our Beer Despondent Michael Nelson who joined us from the Greenwood Village Parry’s. Next, Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault jumped on with us live from Highlands Ranch and then we did Mobile Canning‘s Brew News You Can Use. Around the bottom of the hour we were joined by beer bloggers Dave Butler from Fermentedly Challenged and Mark Robinson from Brewtally Insane. We talked about Avery brews, what they are covering and about some new breweries. Also this hour, Parry’s Director of Beer Flow Melanie Whitcomb jumped on to give us a scene set from the Parry’s in Castle Rock.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 4-13-2013

Big Thanks to Laura Vande Zande from Renegade Brewing Company for filling in with Turk on this show! She did an amazing job!

In Hour One we led off Mobile Canning‘s with Brew News You Can Use! We then were joined by Craig Rothgery of De Steeg Brewing and John Frazee of Gravity Brewing. They talked about their respective breweries and about a collaboration they did together! De Steeg was going to name their brewery High Gravity but after a friendly phone call they just decided an new name was in order and they collaborated on a very good 10% + ABV Belgian IPA! We also jumped on with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery to talk more about the Comic Con Beer and some of their upcoming events!

In Hour Two we led off with Bryan Selders who is the former head brewer at Dogfish Head and was recently named head brewer at The Post Brewing Company which will open in Lafayette this November. Bryan was also the co host with Sam Calagione of Brew Masters which made a short run on Discovery Channel. He talked about the jump from DFH to graphics design and then back into brewing as well as some brews he likes to experiment with. Colorado is very lucky to have this guy moving here to brew his stuff! We then talked with Melanie Whitcomb and Keniey Sonley from Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar. They recently opened their 4th location at Holly and Orchard in the DTC! They now boast 144 taps! We also talked about April 27th’s Big Ass Tap Takeover which will run at 3 locations (CR,HR,DTC) with 30 Avery taps at each! All the details are in this hour. We will be broadcasting from the Highlands Ranch location from 12-2 but get there early as Adam Avery will be doing a little toast with us around 11:30 am.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast Avery Strong Ale Festival 3-2-13

The Gubna and Turk were live form the Avery Brewing Company Tap Room for the 11th Annual Strong Ale Festival. This festival benefits Blue Sky Bridge Child & Family Advocacy Center. They facilitate a collaborative approach to child abuse investigations while providing child victims and their families with support in a safe and child-focused environment. They strive to make the community safer for all children and families through intervention, education and advocacy.

Very honored to broadcast from this awesome fest where every beer is over 8% ABV. Some very great beers and movers and shakers in the craft beer were present! Big thanks to Joe Osborne, Adam Avery and the whole crew in Boulder for having us out!

In Hour One: We threw out Brew News You Can Use, told you what is going on with all of our awesome sponsors and had a ton of guests! We led off with Joe Osborne who is Avery’s Marketing Director. We talked about the Strong Ale Festival, the new brewery, session brews and much more. We then caught up with Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery. Breck just brewed a new beer this week with the folks from Comic Con and will be releases when the show is in Denver in May. Tebo also gave us the awesome list of events they will be involved in during Colorado Craft Beer Week which runs March 18th through the 24th. We closed out hour one talking with JD Merryweather from Oklahoma City’s COOP Ale Works. He and his crew had some fine beers on tap and we talked about the beer scene in OK and about his brewery.

In Hour Two: We continued talking with OKC’s JD Merryweather about COOP Ale Works. We also brought in Director of Operations at Dry Dock Brewing Company Doug Hyndman. He was former head brewer and just received the promotion to Director of Ops! We talked about the new production facility south of I70 on Tower Road, the beers they are canning and much more. We then doubled up with Tim Myers from Strange Brewing Company and Jason Wiedmaier from Lone Tree Brewing Company! We talked about the brotherhood of brewing in Colorado, Colorado Craft Beer Week, new beers at their respective digs and more. We closed out the show with a brief conversation with Ed Sealover of the Denver Business Journal and author f Mountain Brew. He and Charles Nuckolls have launched a beer show on TV called Colorado Brews which will have a pilot episode airing on Saturday April 6th at 9:30 PM on Rocky Mountain PBS. Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines

Very honored to be able to broadcast from the 13th Annual Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines Festival again this year from the beautiful Cascade Resort and Spa in Vail! Want to give a huge thanks to Laura Lodge, Bill Lodge, Kirsten Texler, IT guru Chad and our awesome engineer Erik Hood for making this happen for us! And also a big thanks to the Antlers at Vail for putting us up! One of our favorite festivals of the year, Big Beers knows how to do it right with a weekend full of seminars, beer dinners, workshops, discussions, a homebrew competition and also some of the greatest and rarest beers you will find all year! Another highlight of this fest is that all the biggest names in beer come out! We tried to fit in as many as we could in two hours!

In Hour One we talked to Boulevard Brewing‘s Steven Pauwels, Barrel Herder at Avery Andy Parker and Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head.

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast Oskar Blues’ Homemades, Liquids & Solids Funk’n Wild Event

The Gubna and Turk broadcasted from Oskar Blues Homemades, Liquids and Solids for the Funk’n Wild Sour and Wild Ale Club meeting. Just FYI – we had to engineer this one ourselves and had a few issues but most of the show is here!

In Hour One we led off setting the scene and talking a little bit about the potential legal issues Strange Brewing Company is facing with a brew shop in Massassachusetts who wants them to change their name. Read the story here from Shikes at The Westword and go to this support page for Strange and hit like! We also threw out a ton of brew news and let you know what our sponsors are up to. At 12:30 Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery jumped in and told us all their happenings. We also were joined by Ben Christensen and Lou McKercher from Homemades, Liquids and Solids. We closed out the hour with Avery Brewing‘s brewer, barrel herder and presenter of the day Andy Parker. We talked sours and a bit about Avery’s barrel aged releases.

In Hour Two we opened up talking to Great American Beer Festival small brewery of the year Funkwerks. We were joined by Gordon Schuck, Andy Mitchell and Brad Lincoln. They gave us their story, talked about Belgian beers and about their expansion. We then were joined by founder of the Funk’n Wild that meets once a quarter at Homemades, Liquids and Solids. Chandra Ruiz was our special guest and boy does she know here sour and wild ales. There was also a lot more brew news you can use thrown out this hour! Big thanks to the entire Oskar Blues, HLMS, Funkwerks and Funk’n Wild crew for making us a part of this!

Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast 3rd Annual Sourfest at Avery Brewing 6-2-2012

A live road show at Avery Brewing Company for their 3rd Annual Sour Fest.

In Hour 1 we talked with Avery Operations Director Steve Breezley about their new 27 million dollar facility and about all things Avery. We were also joined by Tebo from Breckenridge Brewery who had a big announcement about them moving forward with plans to produce more than 60,ooo barrels and stay in Colorado.  We also talked with Chris Rippe from The Rackhouse.

In Hour 2 we led off talking to Avery Head Brewer Matt “Handtruck” Thrall and Head Barrel Herder Andy “Hollywood” Parker. We talked sours and about their move to the new 96,000 square foot facility. We also talked with Jonathan Shikes from The Westword, Tim Myers from Strange Brewing and Adam Heaton and Don Chapman from Grimm Brothers Brewhouse.
