In hour two we finally had Alan Simons who is the head brewer at Backcountry Brewery in Frisco. They recently had a rebranding effort. Lone Tree Brewing Company was so kind to invite us out for their 3rd Anniversary Party as they released some very big news. Stacy Turk sat in for co hosting duties today! John Winter and Jason Wiedmaier joined us to talk about some really massive growth plans. We are very excited to see them gain an additional 3,600 square feet, a fully automatic Cask canning line, a new 20 barrel brewhouse and a fourth can which will be Hoptree Double IPA. The canning line is in, the brewhouse is on the way, and the Hoptree cans should be ready to roll by summer. All this allowing Lone Tree to triple their production. This is really great news. They also say they are toying with some sour beers that can be kept away from their brew system in their new space behind the taproom. Cheers for a big 2015 coming up for Lone Tree Brewing Company! Guests included owners John and Jason Winter, brewers Josh West and Jerry Siote. We also talked to Tap Room Manager Amber Davis-Sato and Sales Manager Bridgette Geiger.

Saturday November 29th 2014 Chain Reaction Brewing for the Despondents vs Stacy Turk Beer

11-29 2

Yep, it finally came down to this one! Stacy and John Turk have been homebrewing for a handful of years so when Zack Christofferson from Chain Reaction Brewing approached them both to do separate beers professionally at Chain Reaction, we had to make a big deal out of it. So we though it might be cool to have Stacy take on the Beer Despondents Todd Thibault, Mike Nelson and Turk. Stacy and the Chain Reax crew made a Caramel Apple Brown while the Despondents went with a Chocolate Cream Porter. We had a contest to see what beer was better as we tapped it today. The winner was decided by a judging panel made up of Brewtally Insane‘s Mark Robinson, The Thirsty German Nicol Winkler, author and beer journalist Emily Hutto and Nate Fleming from High Plains Tap House. One dollar for each sale went to their respective charities. Stacy went with The Gathering Place and the Despondents went with Life Is Better RescueThe losing beer makers have to match the totals for sale of that beer. So it came down to it with Nate and Nicol voting for the Stacy and Mark and Emily voting for the Despondents. The folks on hand had to split the votes and did so favoring Stacy’s Caramel Apple Brown. During the show we had on Tim Myers from Strange Craft Beer Company, Thibault, Nelson, Stacy, Zack and Chad Christofferson, Klaus Schiefelbbin and the entire judging panel. What a very fun event and we WILL do this again. BIG up thanks to the Christofferson family and the Chain Reax crew for hosting us. This was a very good time.

Man were we lucky to broadcast from The Colorado Keg House smack dab in the middle of a Widespread Panic run at First Bank Center. Todd Thibault from Breckenridge Brewery made the trip up to co host. We spent hour one with Jerod Hutchison who along with Jason Wiley own and operate the CO Keg House. They are at 8001 Arista Place in Broomfield just a few yards away from the First Bank Center. They carry 75 taps of nuthin’ but Colorado beers and they really go out of their way to support the smaller guys in the state. The tap list is always changing so you never know what you’ll get but if you can’t find something in the 75 taps, there may be no help for you. We also talked to Michael Memsic and Drew Owen from Sanitas Brewing in Boulder. They are doing some very cool stuff and putting some of them in cans. Again big thanks to the CO Keg House crew. You need to step in and see what they have to offer to the ever growing craft beer scene.

Brand Detailed

Double Diesel is back! Rockyard’s Double IPA takes IPA to the extreme. Incalculable bitterness, and 10.1% abv, this beer is one you won’t soon forget. A big malty body forms the base, then it is hopped, hopped some more, and then dry hopped, so you can’t escape the hop flavor, bitterness and aroma. Hopsinclude Amarillo, Saphir, Simcoe, and Willamette. Look for it now as well as for Rockyard on the floor at GABF and in the Farm to Table Pavilion. They are paired up with the Squeaky Bean on Wynkoop Street for a unique food and beer pairing experience.

Cheers from an extraordinarily busy Wynkoop!  They’re super excited to have a slough of events coming up with GABF raring its pretty head!  Here’s a small taste of what’s happening…  They’ll be pouring a Fresh Hop Belgorado Belgian-Style IPA featuring 250 lbs of fresh Chinooks from Misty Mountain Hop Farm on Saturday!  Sunday is a big 1400 Miles RiNo Block Party supporting the Pints for Prostates Charity featuring the arrival of the BeerLiner in Denver!  On Wednesday, the BeerLiner comes to stay at the Wynkoop for four days, Oct. 1st through 4th, and they’re celebrating with a special Prickly Pear Berlinerweiss! The Wynkoop is looking forward to Beers Made By Walking on Friday October 3rd where they’ll be pouring the Denver Pacific Smoked Oak Stout. Keep your eyes peeled on booth L1 at GABF- for special tappings throughout the weekend!
