Colorado Craft Beer Show Brewcast: Saturday April 4th 2015 World of Beer and Declaration Brewing

Turk hosted the show with Ricardo Cabrera who is a managing partner and marketing guro for the local World of Beer locations in Colorado. They currently have three stores in Cherry Creek, Belmar and Lodo. They are also gearing up to open one in Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall. We talked about their really phenomenal beer program that is truly unique at each location. We think these guys get an unfair shake being called too “chainy” when they are helping support many local breweries and involved heavily in the community. In hour one we also talked to Breckenridge Brewery‘s Todd Thibault about their brand new IPA called Breck IPA. In hour two we jumped in with Mike Bladford and Dr. Greg Schlichting from Declaration Brewing who opened in February at 2030 S. Cherokee St. in Denver. They are already rocking 16 beers on tap. They brought in several of these and are knocking it out of the park already. They have a pretty sweet lab set up too that they not only use for themselves, but also allow other breweries to use for qualitative analysis. These are good folks who have a stunning tap room and a lot of room to grow and distribute. We also did some Brew News You Can Use.

Saturday November 29th 2014 Chain Reaction Brewing for the Despondents vs Stacy Turk Beer

11-29 2

Yep, it finally came down to this one! Stacy and John Turk have been homebrewing for a handful of years so when Zack Christofferson from Chain Reaction Brewing approached them both to do separate beers professionally at Chain Reaction, we had to make a big deal out of it. So we though it might be cool to have Stacy take on the Beer Despondents Todd Thibault, Mike Nelson and Turk. Stacy and the Chain Reax crew made a Caramel Apple Brown while the Despondents went with a Chocolate Cream Porter. We had a contest to see what beer was better as we tapped it today. The winner was decided by a judging panel made up of Brewtally Insane‘s Mark Robinson, The Thirsty German Nicol Winkler, author and beer journalist Emily Hutto and Nate Fleming from High Plains Tap House. One dollar for each sale went to their respective charities. Stacy went with The Gathering Place and the Despondents went with Life Is Better RescueThe losing beer makers have to match the totals for sale of that beer. So it came down to it with Nate and Nicol voting for the Stacy and Mark and Emily voting for the Despondents. The folks on hand had to split the votes and did so favoring Stacy’s Caramel Apple Brown. During the show we had on Tim Myers from Strange Craft Beer Company, Thibault, Nelson, Stacy, Zack and Chad Christofferson, Klaus Schiefelbbin and the entire judging panel. What a very fun event and we WILL do this again. BIG up thanks to the Christofferson family and the Chain Reax crew for hosting us. This was a very good time.
